Packing for Florida is a balancing act: brutal humidity outside, freezing air conditioning inside, and at least one dinner where you want to look genuinely nice. Whether it is Miami, Orlando or the Gulf coast, this list covers the whole trip.
Swim first, everything else second
Plan on two swimsuits minimum so one is always dry. A bikini set for pool days and a flattering one piece that doubles as a bodysuit under shorts for lunch. Tie side bottoms and halter tops travel well because the fit adjusts after every beach buffet.
Daytime in the humidity
Cotton and viscose are your friends. A breezy romper is the theme park hero: one piece, no thinking, pockets if you choose well. Flowing skirts and cropped tops keep air moving, and light wash wide leg jeans handle the rare cloudy day.
Dinner and nights out
Florida dresses up more than people expect, especially in Miami. Pack one slinky maxi dress with a slit for the nice dinner and one mini dress for the night that goes late. Metallic sandals work with both.
The AC survival layer
Every restaurant, mall and airport in Florida is kept at meat locker temperatures. A light denim jacket earns its suitcase space by the second day.
Florida packing checklist
- Two swimsuits, one bikini and one one piece
- A romper with pockets for park days
- One maxi and one mini dress for evenings
- A denim jacket for indoor freezes
- Delicate jewelry that survives humidity
