Colorado weather is famous for delivering all four seasons before lunch, which makes layering less of a style choice and more of a survival skill. From Denver patios to Breckenridge gondolas, here is how to dress for a state that cannot make up its mind.
The base layer is everything
Start with quality leggings: high waisted for warmth, contoured for the trailhead photo, fleece lined once the aspens turn. In Colorado, leggings are legitimate pants for coffee, hikes, yoga and the airport, often all in the same day.
Denver and Boulder days
City Colorado dresses like elevated outdoor casual. Straight leg jeans with sneakers and a layered top handle museums and breweries, and a denim jacket over a knit covers the twenty degree swing between morning and afternoon.
Mountain town apres
The apres look is relaxed but intentional: slouchy jeans with a fitted base layer, warm socks and boots. Nobody overdresses in a mountain town, but everybody layers well.
Summer in the high country
Colorado summer is glorious and cool by evening. A casual midi dress with sneakers works for farmers markets, with activewear underneath if the day includes a trail. Pack a layer for every evening, always.
The Colorado kit
- Leggings for every activity level
- Straight leg and slouchy denim
- Layer friendly tops and a denim jacket
- One easy dress for summer evenings
Build from the activewear collection up, and never trust a Colorado forecast.
