Match the tool to the coat

• Slicker brushes work through tangles and loose hair on medium and long coats.

Start with short sessions after play, when your pet is relaxed. Let them sniff the brush, brush gently in the direction the hair grows, and reward them with a treat. For a nervous pet, brush one area at a time. Stop at once if your pet pulls away or shows pain.

Bath time and tool care

A bath hammock or restraint bag can help keep a pet steady for bathing and nail trims, but never leave a pet alone in one. A quick dry bag or absorbent towel speeds things along afterward. Clean combs and brushes after each use by pulling out the hair and rinsing in warm soapy water, then dry them fully. If you see skin redness, bald patches or heavy flakes, ask your vet.
